This panel, University of California’s State of the (Media) Art, brings together an all-UC panel of practitioners and researchers developing and working with a wide range of performative technologies.

New media art mediated via digital means – often with the global Internet as its platform – not only challenge traditional creative media, but also change forever ideas about art-making, physical proximity and cultural identity, raising new questions about and creative responses to contemporary life.

We ask: who, where, how, and why are we creating digital art for live performance purposes? In what ways do our investigations and experimentation at the crossroads of art and technology – individually and collectively – act as catalysts for new performance practices and inform the UC’s vision of interdisciplinarity in research and education?
